EU BREXIT NEGOTIATOR WILL PAY ‘CLOSE ATTENTION’ TO IRELAND

The EU’s Chief Brexit negotiator says he’ll pay close attention to Ireland as discussions with the UK get underway.

Michel Barnier is holding his first press conference since Theresa May officially triggered article 50.

It follows the insertion of the so-called Kenny text in the EU’s negotiation guidelines last weekend – which recognises the possibility of a united Ireland.

Mr Barnier says Ireland will be to the forefront as he begins his work.
