SOUTH EAST RADIO WINS CONSUMER BROADCAST NEWS AWARD AT 2011 GSK IRISH MEDIA AWARDS
The South East Radio Morning Mix Team were delighted to receive the prestigious Consumer Broadcast News award at the 2011 GSK Irish Medical Media Awards 2011, Wednesday 12th October. The award follows in the footsteps of previous winners such as Prime Time and the 360 series . According to the GSK Media Awards judging panel “The award recognised the team’s comprehensive, campaigning coverage of a local story which included an excellent use of their archive material and precipitated a resignation live on air”.
The entry captured the early concerns of the general public to the real and then present danger of downgrading the services of Wexford General Hospital. It documents the turns and twists in the available funding, then the leaked document and the concerns of the medical board spear heading the South East Hospital Restructure which led to the resignation live on air of the committee chairperson Dr Colm McQuigley. It culminated in the allocation of €20 million to build a new A& E department, a new maternity and neo natal unit for Wexford General Hospital.
Commenting on the award, Liam Dwyer General Manager, South East Radio says “We are delighted to receive a national award recognizing the effort made by the people of County Wexford to save Wexford General Hospital and the part that the South East Radio Morning Mix Team played in probing, keeping the pressure on and promoting the plight of the hospital.. The positive outcome for the hospital is the real reward for South East Radio and we look forward to broadcasting the turning of the sod in the very near future”.
