QUEEN ELIZABETH WELCOMES IRISH PRESIDENT TO THE U.K

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has formally welcomed the President to the UK – for his 4 day State visit.

Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina were greeted by the British monarch and her husband Prince Philip in Windsor.

The President’s other engagements today will include an address at the Houses of Parliament in Westminister.

The Irish national anthem rang out in Windsor today – as the President’s State visit to Britain officially began.

After being met by Prince Charles at the Irish Embassy in London – Michael D Higgins and Sabina travelled to Windsor.

They were formally greeted by Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinbrugh Prince Philip.

The hand shakes were marked with a 21 gun salute in windsor and a 41 gun salute at the Tower of london.

They then travel together in a horse-drawn carriage procession through the streets of Windsor – which were lined with tricolours and union flags and hundreds of people.

In the quadrangle of Windsor Castle – Michael D Higgins was welcomed with a spectacular display of pomp and pageantry – involving more than 850 British army personnel, 275 horses and an Irish wolfhound.
