SPORT: CLARE’S COLLINS BROTHERS OPT TO PLAY GAELIC FOOTBALL ONLY NEXT YEAR

There’s bad news for Clare ahead of next season with confirmation that neither Podge or Sean Collins will be available to the hurlers.

The two are sons of football manager Colm Collins.

Both were part of the Banner football squad to earn promotion to division 3 this season while Podge featured heavily in the Clare hurlers all Ireland win last year.

According to Irish Independent both will only play football next season but sources have told us that the relationship between the Collins’ and manager Davy Fitzgerad is good and the door remains open to a possible return.

Meanwhile Ronan Mc Carthy has stepped down as coach to the Cork senior footballers.

Mc Carthy joined Brian Cuthbert’s backroom team for his opening season but has stepped away due to “work and other commitments”.
