SPORT: YOUTHS SUFFER HEAVY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LOSS
Wexford Youths suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat at the hands of Polish side, Medyk Konin in the group stages of the Women’s Champions League qualifiers yesterday evening.
After starting their campaign in the best possible way, beating Gintra Universitetas 1-0 last Tuesday, Will Doyle’s side were hopeful of building on that against the host team.
However, an early goal from Katarzyna Daleszczyk knocked the Continental Tyres Women’s National League champions off guard and even though they played well in patches they were unable to dominate.
The Youths now have one win and one loss in Group 7 ahead of their final qualifier on Sunday.
Wexford’s minus-five goal difference means qualification is now an almost impossible task.
