A MAN SUSPECTED OF RAPING A CHILD IN THE UK IS ARRESTED IN GOREY
A man found living in a house in North Wexford over the weekend is suspected of being on the run from the UK.
The 55 year old is believed to have fled his trial last year for raping one girl aged between five and seven and indecently assaulting another when he was 19 or 20 years old.
He was sentenced to 17 years in prison in his absence.
South East Radio News understands concerned residents at an estate in Gorey became aware the man was living in the area and alerted the Gardai.
He was arrested on Sunday on foot of a European Arrest Warrant and brought before a special sitting of Gorey District Court on five separate charges.
He’s been remanded in custody to appear before Gorey District Court again on Thursday.
