WATER SAFETY IS ENCOURAGED AHEAD OF AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

30 children aged 14 and under have drowned in Irish waters in the past decade.

Irish Water Safety is urging parents to supervise children at all times near water.

It comes ahead of the August Bank Holiday which is one of the busiest weekends for outdoor swimming.

CEO of Irish Water Safety John Leech says nearly 500 children needed assistance on beaches here last year alone.
