DOUBTS OVER PLANS FOR SUGAR TAX

Potential funds expected from the sugar tax have been widely over estimated while the Government have yet to inform the EU of their plans to introduce the tax.

Controversy surrounding the tax includes which drinks should be levied, combined with some drinks companies deciding to reduce the amount of sugar in their products.

It had been estimated the tax could raise around one hundred million euro, but that figure has now dropped to around 40 million.
