COASTGUARDS GIVEN HIGHER STATUS WITH NEW FIANNA FAIL BILL

New legislation is being brought forward by Fianna Fail to enhance the coastguard services.

The Irish Coastguard Authority Bill 2018 will bring the service into line with other frontline emergency services by placing it on a statutory basis.

The bill has been welcomed by Deputy James Browne who says it highlights the important role the service provides in protecting fishing communities and coastal areas.
