Aer Lingus Heathrow Commitments To Be Ratified Tomorrow

AER LINGUS HEATHROW COMMITMENTS TO BE RATIFIED TOMORROW

The Transport Minister says promises concerning the Heathrow landing slots will be ratified at the Aer Lingus EGM tomorrow.

It comes after the European Commission yesterday cleared the IAG takeover of the airline, on conditions including that it gives up some of its landing slots at Gatwick to ensure competition on routes to Dublin and Belfast.

Minister Donohoe says the takeover would allow Aer Lingus to bring more long haul flights into and out of Ireland, as well as increasing the flow of passengers.

And he says assurances given over the Heathrow landing slots will be secured tomorrow.

“Aer Lingus as part of the IAG group have made commitments of launching four new long-haul services out of Dublin between now and 2020, and hiring a further 640 employees” he said.

“I am confident that progress in those areas will begin soon”.

“But the crucial commitments in relation to the use of Heathrow slots and connectivity there I’m expecting will be written into company law and the articles of association of the company tomorrow morning” he added.
