Birth Rate Continues To Drop At Wexford General Hospital

BIRTH RATE CONTINUES TO DROP AT WEXFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL

There is a trend of falling numbers for the birth rate at Wexford General hospital.

New figures published today show a 7 per cent drop.

Eleven of the countries nineteen matenity units have recorded a drop in births.

The HSE figures relate to the month of April last year when compared to April this year.

Amongst them is Wexford General Hospital where births have gone down by 6.9 per cent.

Of the eleven hospitals that have witnessed a drop in birthrate – Wexford comes in at number 4 behind the highest Clonmel and followed by Cavan and Kerry general hospitals.

Saint Lukes in Kilkenny also recorded a drop but there was a small increase of 1.6 per cent in births at Waterford Regional Hospital.

After years of a baby boom nationally there is a continuing falling birth rate which has been evident for a few years now.
