CEREMONY TO BE HELD IN ROSSLARE TO MARK 50th ANNIVERSARY OF TUSKAR CRASH

A special wreath laying ceremony is to take place in Rosslare tomorrow to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tuskar Rock Air Tragedy.

61 people were killed when an Aer Lingus Viscount plane crashed off the Wexford coast while flying from Cork to Heathrow Airport on March 24th 1968.

Mystery still surrounds the crash with one theory suggesting that it may have been hit by a missile.

However an international report into the crash in 2002 suggested that it may have been caused by metal fatigue on the aircraft’s tail

A memorial service for the relatives of the victims will also take place in Ballyphehane, Cork on Sunday.
