Children Of Jason Corbett Placed Under Guardianship Of Their Aunt And Uncle

CHILDREN OF JASON CORBETT PLACED UNDER GUARDIANSHIP OF THEIR AUNT AND UNCLE

Relatives of Jason Corbett have been granted guardianship of his two children.

His son and daughter had been in the care of their stepmother Molly Martens, after 39-year-old Mr Corbett died in a violent incident at his home in North Carolina earlier this month.

The family hopes Jack and Sarah will be able to be brought back to Ireland to attend their father’s funeral in his native Limerick.

Molly Martens had applied for custody and to adopt the pair – however those proceedings could be dissolved on foot of the latest decision about their care.

Irish Daily Mail reporter Catherine Fegan, who is in the US, says things developed quickly on Monday night once a judge decided the children should be with their father’s relatives.

“Officials from the Department of Social Services went to the property to take possession of the children, as they say over here” she said.

“Obviously that happened quite quickly and they were placed with the Department of Social Services for a number of hours, until Tracey and David came to collect them” she added.
