Cllr Jim Codd has expressed shock and outrage over the violent incidents that took place in Taghmon on Halloween night.
Residents reported significant damage, including a car having its mirrors broken and windows smashed by groups of young people, some wearing balaclavas.
While Cllr Codd acknowledged that Halloween pranks are common, he condemned the destructive behavior, including the throwing of objects at passing squad cars, calling it “absolutely unacceptable.”
Speaking out against the rising levels of anti-social behavior, Cllr Codd emphasized the need for a stronger Garda presence on the ground.
Speaking to South East Radio news he revealed that Taghmon is not the only village to suffer such incidents, with several other towns and villages reporting similar disturbances during the Halloween period.
Cllr Codd urged immediate action to stop this type of violence, stating, “This is not fun—this is thuggery at its worst.”
