COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER DESCRIBES CLAIMS OF BUGGING AS ‘SOMEWHAT SINISTER’

The Communications Minister has described as “somewhat sinister” claims by the Garda Ombudsman Commission that their offices were bugged.

Pat Rabbitte also says it is highly unusual that the alleged incident was not reported to the Justice Minister.

Alan Shatter is to meet Garda Ombudsman Commission today and will brief the Cabinet on it tomorrow.

Minister Rabbitte says he wants to hear what his Cabinet colleague finds out.

“Given the official role of the Garda Ombudsman and it’s supervision of the Garda Siochana, it is somewhat sinister if what transpired actually did happen” he said.

“But I don’t think we should jump to conclusions until we get the report from the Minister for Justice” he added.
