DRAMATIC INCREASE IN WAIT TIMES FOR COLONSCOPIES AT WEXFORD GENERAL

The number of patients waiting longer than three months for a colonoscopy at Wexford General hospital has increased dramatically.

Figures released today show the numbers waiting longer than this period have gone from 16 to 61 percent in the past year.

This, along with Saint Lukes Hospital in Kilkenny, is one of the highest increases in the country.

The figures have been compiled by the Irish Cancer Society and come in the wake of the revelations that 12 patients were mistakenly given the all-clear, and one died, after attending the BowelScreen programme at Wexford General between 2013 and 2014.
