Enniscorthy Man Refused Bail In Drug Smuggling Case

ENNISCORTHY MAN REFUSED BAIL IN DRUG SMUGGLING CASE

A County Wexford man has been refused bail after being accused of trying to smuggle drugs into Northern Ireland.

The bail application was sought so he could live in the republic.

Patrick Connaughton with an address at Saint Patricks Place, Enniscorthy is one of four men charged with plotting to ship the drugs across the border in pallets of orange juice.

The four were detained last month after the cannabis was discovered in a van at Camlough in Co Armagh.

In court on Monday counsel for Mr Connaughton said his client has no connection with any of the other co-accused and that he was the man with the van asked to come up from Wexford to pick up a load.

He said Mr Connaughton had no address to reside at in Northern Ireland

But Mister Justice Weir said there is no prospect of him granting bail to a man allegedly involved in 800,000 pounds worth of drugs smuggling who hasn’t got an address in the jurisdiction.
