H1N1 FLU VIRUS CASES CONFIRMED AT WEXFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL

Two cases of the H1N1 flu virus have been confirmed at Wexford General Hospital.

Originally known as swine flu the virus has been circulating around the world since 2009.

It is highly contagious and anyone with symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches or high temperature are advised to seek medical help.

However Clinincal Director at Wexford General Hospital Doctor Colm Quigley says it’s nothing to be too alarmed about for most people:

“This particular strain is no worse than other forms of influenza really. It depends on your underlying conditions more than anything else” he said.

“The virus itself is..is one thing but it depends if you’re over 65, if you have long term heart, lung, kidney, liver, respiratory or neurological conditions… or if you are a child that you may be at more risk from the effects of an influenza virus infection” he continued.
