IRISH HUSBAND CONFESSES TO KILLING HIS WIFE IN SWITZERLAND

An Irishman has admitted to the killing of his wife at their home near Lausanne in Switzerland.

The woman, Galina Schevchenko, was married to Enniscorthy man Harry Ringwood.

The alarm was raised by workmen who came to their home on Monday afternoon and found her body in a pool of blood. She had multiple stab wounds.

Her husband was found unconscious beside her body and was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been released.

Swiss police have issued a statement on the matter this morning.

From Geneva, journalist Ellen Wallace told Alan Corcoran on South East Radio’s Morning Mix that a 49 year-old Irishman has confessed to police that he inflicted some 50 stab wounds on his wife who was 46 and killed her on Monday in the old town of Lutry.

She says he told police that the couple argued and he stabbed her to death after that.

The accused tried to kill himself afterwards and was hospitalised.

Police were not able to interview him until yesterday but he’s now left the hospital and is in police custody.
