Four homeowners in County Wexford have been awarded a combined total of over €300,000 in damages after a court found that noise from the Ballyduff Windfarm near Enniscorthy caused “unreasonable interference” with their properties.
The Daily Mirror reports the case, the first of its kind in Ireland and the UK, saw homeowners Margaret Webster and Keith Rollo, along with Ross Shorten and Joan Carty, challenge Meenacloghspar (Wind) Limited over the impact of the two-turbine farm, which has been operational since 2017.
In her ruling, Ms Justice Emily Egan granted compensation for the nuisance caused along with damages for the devaluation of their properties.
The case marks a significant legal precedent for wind farm noise claims in Ireland, with the court also placing restrictions on the wind farm’s operation
