LEADING POLITICAL FIGURES PAY TRIBUTE TO MARTIN MCGUINNESS

Tributes are being paid to the former Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, who has died at the age of 66.

He had been unwell for several months, and passed away in hospital last night.

President Higgins is leading tributes to someone whom he said made an ‘immense contribution’ to peace and reconciliation.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny says his passing represents a significant loss, not only to politics in Northern Ireland, but to the wider political landscape on this island and beyond.

Speaking to Alan Corcoran on South East Radio’s Morning Mix when the Sinn Fein Ard Fheis was held in Wexford, Martin McGuinness said there was no going back to the dark days of the past in Northern Ireland.
