NEW CAMPAIGN AIMS TO HELP IMPROVE LITERACY LEVELS IN IRELAND

President Michael D Higgins says access to education is vital.

He’s posted a message on twitter to mark International Literacy Day.

Around 30% of Irish adults have low literacy levels compared to an international average of 10 – 15%.

A new campaign is being launched to encourage people to reach out and get the help they need.

Anthony Mann from the OECD says the first step to improving literacy is recognising low levels are a problem.
