NO STEP DOWN CARE MEANS PATIENTS STAY LONGER IN HOSPITAL THAN NEEDED

Over 15,000 bed days were lost each month in hospitals nationwide in the first half of the year.

New HSE figures reveal patients who are fit to leave hospitals are being kept in the system because there is no access to appropriate step down care.

It also shows more than 90,000 bed days were lost while over 86,000 people were waiting for treatment at the same time.

Fianna Fails Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher says the Minister needs to intervene quickly.
