POLL: GOVERNMENT PARTIES FALLING SHORT OF SUPPORT NEEDED TO BE RE-ELECTED

The Justice Minister insists it’s all to play for in the final days of the campaign.

That’s despite a new poll which shows the government parties falling short of the support they require for re-election.

The IPSOS MRBI survey for the Irish Times, which polled 1,200 people last Friday and Saturday, shows Fine Gael stagnant on 28%, with Labour down 1 point to 6.

Fianna Fáil’s up 2 to 23%, while Sinn Féin is down 4 points to 15%.

Unaligned independents are up 3 points to 11, while the Independent Alliance is up 1 point to 4.

The Social Democrats and AAA/People Before Profit are each on 3%, while there’s 2% each for Renua and the Greens.

Frances Fitzgerald says there’s a large number of undecided voters;

“I believe that the next number of days are the key days when people will make up their minds and when they will have to focus on what Government they want to see in place” she said.

“We have 18% undecided at present, that is a huge number of people at this point in the electoral cycle coming up to an election” she added.
