PREFABS ON WAY OUT FOR MANY SCHOOLS, SAYS EDUCATION MINISTER

A number of schools in Ireland will have their prefabs replaced with permanent classrooms next year.

Over 2,600 students in primary and second level schools around the country will move into permanent accommodation from prefabs in 2014 under the Prefab Replacement Scheme.

This is the second phase of a plan to move students out of prefabs at a cost of around ¬ 15 million.

The Education Minister Ruairí Quinn says the scheme is part of the programme for Government, which is committed to phasing out the inefficient renting of prefabs.
