Private Investment Sought At Rosslare Europort

PRIVATE INVESTMENT SOUGHT AT ROSSLARE EUROPORT

Private sector investment is vital for the future of Rosslare Europort.

That’s according to John Lynch general manager of Rosslare Europort who spoke to South East Radio following a staff briefing on the future of the port yesterday.

The company currently employs 73 people and there’s concern amongst staff about any future changes to the running of it.

Iarnród Éireann, Port Authority for Rosslare Europort, is to undertake an assessment of market interest in a concession with a third party to operate the Port.

The assessment follows a study by Indecon Consultants for the Department of Transport, Tourism * Sport which examined strategic options for the future of the Europort, to maximise its potential and address future investment requirements.

The report recommended that the Europort remain in the ownership of Iarnród Éireann, but with a long term concession with a third party.

John Lynch, general manager of the port, says the port needs investment but Iarnród Éireann is short of funds.

He says they need to find a way to get third party private sector investment into the port.
