PUBLIC SECTOR PAY TALKS CONTINUE WITH LOTS OF ‘TECHNICAL DETAIL’

The IMPACT trade union says talks on pay in the public sector have not gotten down to the nitty gritty of pay restoration yet.

Yesterday, Minister Alan Kelly warned unions they must be realistic in their expectations for pay increases.

Meaningful talks began on the matter began on Wednesday and will resume today.

Communications officer with IMPACT, Niall Shanahan, say this week they are focusing on drafting a document on working arrangements – before hitting pay next week.

“it’s a working document that affects the working lives of 290,000 people, so you can imagine there’s a fair amount of technical detail – or just detail – that needs to be dealt with and discussed” he said.

“So that’s what’s happening this week, and then next week we expect that we will get into a discussion about the actual level of pay restoration” he added.
