SHATTER TAKES COURT CHALLENGE TO QUASH ELEMENTS OF GUERIN REPORT

Alan Shatter has launched a legal challenge with the aim of quashing parts of the Guerin Report.

The former Justice Minister resigned following the report publication in March, after it strongly criticised his handling of allegations from Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

Alan Shatter says Sean Guerin, who’s originally from Wexford, showed “indecent haste” in compiling the report as well as an “objective bias” and an “absence of fair procedures”.

Irish Times court reporter Mary Carolan explains.

“That was the nucleus of the claim: that the report was compiled too quickly within an eight week time scale and that that meant that Mr. Guerin didn’t personally interview Mr Shatter or have time to review what Mr Shatter says are all the necessary documents” she said.

“And he says this was all in breach of his right to fair procedures and natural and Constitutional justice” she added.
