South East Emerging As Favourite To Clinch European Capital Of Culture

SOUTH EAST EMERGING AS FAVOURITE TO CLINCH EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE

The south east counties of Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny are emerging as favourites to gain the title of Eurpean Capital of Culture in 2020.

Working under the umbrella name of the Three Sisters, the co-ordinating group has put together a substantial plan in a bid to claim the prestigious title.

Two other areas; Cork and Limerick are also in the running for culture capital with a final decision being made on July 15th.

Rosemary Grant from the Three Sisters says so far their application is going well:

“The EU judges like the fact that it’s a region, that there’s….a rural base to it as well as….a town based, urban based” she said.

The EU commission would like to try, maybe, if this was successful, hopefully it will be, that they would like to roll this out as a possibility for other disadvantaged regions in Europe” she added.
