SPORT: WEXFORD YOUTHS GRANTED CONDITIONAL FIRST DIVSION LICENCE

Wexford Youths football club has been granted a conditional First Division licence by the FAI’s Independent Club Licensing Committee ahead of the start of the new season.

The completion of the licence now depends on the arrival of further paperwork.

Meanwhile Shamrock Rovers – who today added Former Ireland international Stephen McPhail to their team – are among 14 clubs that have been awarded Premier Division licences.

The 34-year-old midfielder has agreed a one-year contract with the Hoops, which will be a major boost to Trevor Croly’s squad.

The former Leeds United and Cardiff City playmaker will officially link-up with Rovers later this month when his short-term contract with English Championship side, Sheffield Wednesday comes to an end.

All 12 top-flight clubs have secured the necessary licences, along with Longford Town and Shelbourne, who will be competing in the First Division this season.
