TAOISEACH SAYS IT’S UP TO JUDGE FENNELLY TO DECIDE WHEN TO PUBLISH REPORT

The Taoiseach says it is up to Mr Justice Nial Fennelly to decide when to publish the interim report into the resignation of Former Garda Commission Martin Callinan.

It is after the conclusion of Ian Bailey’s High Court case cleared the way for the release of the report.

Mr Justice Fennelly was appointed last year to investigate the taping of phone calls at garda stations across the country and the events leading up to Martin Callinan’s departure.

It is understood the draft report will be sent to interviewees before publication.

Enda Kenny says that is the correct way for the matter to be handled.

“I heard the comment from a member of the commission, and that’s part of the very normal process being followed commissions of investigation” he said.

“That’s a matter for Judge Fennelly of course, and I think the commission spokesperson is pointing out what is perfectly normal” he added.
