WEXFORD PRIEST FIRST IN THE FERNS DIOCESE TO PUBLICLY SUPPORT YES VOTE

A Wexford priest is urging people to vote yes in the upcoming same-sex marraige referendum.

Father Richard Lawless is the first priest in the Diocese of Ferns to publicly support the yes vote.

The Administrator of Saint Aidan’s Cathederal in Enniscorthy, Father Richard Lawless, approved the changing of the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples on his social media site this week.

Father Lawless has recieved a favourable reaction to his posting and reacted by saying he did not want to upset or offend anyone but said at the same time it’s important to respect one’s own convictions.

Meanwhile the Bishop of Ferns, Denis Brennan, has issued a statement on the meaning of marraige in advance of the referendum.

He said children have a natural right to a mother and father and he appealed to everyone to ponder the issues involved when casting thier vote.
