Wexford TD George Lawlor has called on the government to step in and support the workers affected by the collapse of Fastway, a major logistics company with a large depot in New Ross.
Speaking on Morning Mix, Deputy Lawlor highlighted the far-reaching impact of the company’s downfall, which has left franchisees, contractors, direct employees and drivers owed significant amounts of money.
Many of those affected, especially the direct employees, have been told they must wait through a 30-day consultation period before accessing state support, while contractors and drivers must apply separately.
The Labour Deputy emphasized the urgency of the situation with Christmas fast approaching, warning that the collapse could disrupt deliveries to smaller retailers, exacerbating the economic strain.
The TD called on Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke to intervene and ensure that those impacted by the closure receive the assistance they need
