Community Support Centres are open again today to support those affected by flooding – for food, hot water and phone charging.
Located in Bunclody and Enniscorthy, opening hours are from 9am – 5pm.
Another status yellow weather alert is in place for counties in the south and east of the country.
This latest weather alert took effect at midnight – Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford are under the rain alert until midnight tonight.
It comes as only last night Enniscorthy Quays opened back up for traffic following the catastrophic flooding there. Met Éireann has warned that heavy rain, combined with saturated grounds and high river levels, could lead to more flooding. Wexford County Council are advising caution in the Slaney catchment areas of Enniscorthy Town Centre, Templeshannon, the Promenade and Edermine, where there may be an increased risk of further flooding during the upcoming Yellow rain warning.
Homeowners and businesses across the east and southeast are still counting the cost after being hit by significant flooding following Storm Chandra earlier in the week.
Anne Swaine runs The Bus Stop Shop on the quays in Enniscorthy.
She says the damage done by the floods will keep her shop closed for a number of weeks:
Meanwhile, Labour’s called out Minister James Browne for attempting to blame Met Éireann for communications failures during Storm Chandra. The party’s climate spokesperson Ciaran Ahern says the Minister’s remarks were ‘extraordinary’ and must be called out. The Minister made his comments on yesterday’s Morning MIx with Alan Corcoran
Deputy Ahern says it’s a blatant attempt to distract and deflect from the Government’s own lack of preparedness
