Today Marks Nollaig Na mBan Or Womens Little Christmas

Today marks Nollaig na Mban, or “Women’s Christmas,” a special tradition celebrated in Ireland.

This day, which falls on January 6th, is a time for women to relax and unwind after the busy Christmas period, as traditionally, they have been the primary caretakers of holiday preparations.

Nollaig na mBan has roots in both religious and cultural practices & in some parts of Ireland, women gather to share a meal, enjoy each other’s company and enjoy a well-deserved break

The origins of Nollaig na mBan can be traced to the Feast of the Epiphany, which marks the visit of the three wise men to the infant Jesus. In Irish tradition, it also serves as a symbolic moment to acknowledge the efforts of women, particularly mothers and homemakers, who have played the central role in Christmas celebrations. For many, the festive period can be an overwhelming time of cooking, cleaning, shopping and caring for family members, often leaving women with little time to relax.

Nollaig na mBan is a chance for women to take a break and be celebrated for the work they do.

So ladies you heard it here first….time to put the feet up!
