cheltenham star benefficent retired due to injury
2013 Cheltenham Festival winner Benefficient has been retired. Trainer Tony Martin's charge also won three Grade One races at Leopardstown, including the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase earlier this season . Benefficient ran in the Ryanair Chase two weeks ago but was pulled up. It emerged that the horse - owned by New York-based Irishmen Aidan 'Red' Shiels and Niall Reilly - had sustained a serious leg injury and so the decision was made to retire the star.
