stoke chairman blasts referee
Stoke chairman Peter Coates says he plans to make an official complaint over the performance of referee Martin Atkinson in their Boxing Day defeat to Newcastle. Two players were sent off, and manager Mark Hughes was sent to the stands, in their 5-1 hammering at St James's Park. Coates told the Daily Telegraph Atkinson and his officials were "a disgrace". Hughes is already facing an FA charge of improper conduct for his comments following the match.
