Wilton Mills Trier shines at Wexford
Local connections celebrated last Thursday as Wilton Mills Trier justified favouritism in the mares’ bumper at Wexford. Trained by Paul Pierce in Enniscorthy and ridden by Gorey jockey Luke Murphy, the mare powered home two lengths clear over the closing stages. A winner of a Christmas point-to-point at Dromahane, she had previously finished third in her only other bumper outing at Cork.
Humble Brag bounces back at Cork
While Wexford enthusiasts cheered for local success, Quin trainer Donie Hassett got the new jumps season off to a flying start at Cork on Sunday. Humble Brag, partnered by JJ Slevin, held off the favourite Coded Welder to win a 2m3f handicap hurdle by three lengths. The lightly raced five-year-old, owned by Dominic Murphy, had unseated his rider in Wexford previously and could return to action later this week at Clonmel.
Moon Mission claims first win of the season
Also at Cork, Philip Rothwell’s Moon Mission broke his 11-start drought in a novice hurdle. Guided by Tiernan Power Roche, the five-year-old battled to a length-and-a-half victory over Le Roi Du Livet, giving Rothwell his first winner of the new season following a strong 2025/26 campaign.
