Wexford jockey Eoin Staples made an important stride in his pursuit of the Champion Conditional Jockey title with a vital victory at Tramore on Monday, April 26th, riding Tell Us This to a dominant win in the opening claiming race. Staples secured the win by an impressive 12 lengths, with the 7-2 shot delivering a strong performance in the race sponsored by O’Driscolls Irish Whiskey.
Staples, who has been in great form this season, attributed the success to the favourable ground conditions, saying, "I thought he had a right chance. The ground is close to good, and it suited my horse. He jumped very well. The conditionals’ title is going to go down to the wire, and I needed a winner."
This latest win marks the 16th victory of the season for Staples, all of which have come under the guidance of top trainer Gavin Cromwell, who has provided the Wexford jockey with a significant portion of his successes this year. With 33 winners to his name, Staples currently leads rival Michael Kenneally by three, 33-30. The race for the title will be decided on Saturday, May 2nd at Punchestown.
