Wexford Racing News Local Trainers Continue Strong Start to Summer Campaign

Wexford racing interests enjoyed another productive week on the track, with local trainers and jockeys recording notable successes at both Ballinrobe and Wexford.

Just a month after finishing third at odds of 150-1 in a competitive contest at the Punchestown Festival, Tinto De Verano returned to winning ways in impressive fashion at Ballinrobe on Monday.

The six-length success came in a 2m6f maiden hurdle for Enniscorthy trainer Yvonne Latta, with Tipperary jockey Cian Quirke in the saddle.

Owned and bred by the Latta family, the gelding justified support at 100-30 and could have a bright future ahead. Reports suggest the horse is currently on the market following his latest victory.

Tinahely trainer Philip Rothwell continued his excellent run of form when Billy Lee Swagger produced a career-best performance in the 2m6f handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe.

Ridden patiently by stable jockey Tiernan Power Roche, the 14-1 shot travelled strongly throughout before pulling clear on the final circuit to record an emphatic eight-length victory.

Owned by the Blind Squirrels Syndicate and Bill Esdaile, the homebred winner was registering the third success of his career.

Net Boy Continues Winning Progress

The successful partnership of trainer Barry Connell and jockey Sean Flanagan was back in the winner's enclosure at Ballinrobe thanks to Net Boy, who landed the McHale Tiger Roll Beginners' Chase.

The seven-year-old, who won over hurdles at the same venue 12 months ago, made every yard of the running and powered home by 11 lengths at odds of 12-1.

His latest performance confirmed both his liking for the Mayo track and his continued progression over fences.

Nolan Treble Lights Up Wexford Meeting

Few trainers enjoyed a better week than Paul Nolan, who left Wexford Racecourse with a remarkable treble.

The Enniscorthy handler began the sequence when Sageborough took the 2m1f rated hurdle under Taghmon jockey Sean O'Keeffe. The 10-1 winner once again showed his liking for the track, having also scored on his racecourse debut at Wexford last October.

Nolan struck again in the feature Rosslare Strand Hurdle when Kiltealy Park, partnered by Alan O'Sullivan, got up in the final strides to deny long-time leader Dani Donadoni by a neck. The dramatic victory came at odds of 6-1 and provided O'Sullivan with another milestone success shortly after riding his first winner as a professional.

The treble was completed in the 2m4f bumper as He's My Hero, ridden by local amateur Jack Hendrick, returned to action with a winning performance. The eight-year-old was making his first racecourse appearance in more than three years, making it a particularly notable training achievement.

Collectively, Nolan's three winners returned combined starting prices of 422-1, underlining a memorable afternoon for the local yard.

Rothwell Maintains Momentum

Philip Rothwell's strong start to the new jumps season continued at Wexford when Kilt landed a 2m1f handicap hurdle.

Formerly trained in Britain by William Haggas, Kilt has been with the Tinahely yard for less than a year and gave his current owners a first success since arriving in Ireland.

Ridden by Naas jockey Shane O'Callaghan, the 13-2 chance won comfortably by just over four lengths and looks capable of adding further victories during the summer months.

Rothwell followed up at Limerick on Thursday when Larkins Lane, ridden by Tiernan Power Roche, prevailed by a neck to make it three winners in four days for the thriving stable.
