Zeus Power earned his first Grade 1 win in the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree, following a string of consistent performances. The Joseph O’Brien-trained horse, a 3-1 favourite, triumphed despite a mishap at the third last hurdle, securing a three-length victory under jockey JJ Slevin.
In the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle, Joseph O’Brien’s Home By The Lee, at age 11, proved his stamina by winning for the second time in a month, having previously claimed the Stayers’ Hurdle. The horse dominated the race by seven lengths after battling back against rivals in the home stretch.
Wexford jockey Conor Stone-Walsh continued his rise with a victory aboard Will The Wise in the Randox Topham Handicap Chase at Aintree. Stone-Walsh, after an impressive ride, secured a win by over a length for trainer Gavin Cromwell.
At Gowran, Wexford trainer Pat O’Rourke's Purple Moon, owned and bred by him, pulled off an 80-1 shock victory in impressive style after a less-than-ideal debut earlier this season. O’Rourke has since put the horse up for sale.
Meanwhile, at Wexford, local trainer Paul Nolan, in partnership with jockey Eoin Staples, secured a quick double. Staples also led Nolan-trained Only For Our Man to a seven-length victory at Down Royal, where they followed up with a win from Sandor Clegane.
