Trainer Philip Rothwell strengthened his lead in the William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series with a victory from Zam Bobbler in the maiden hurdle at 14-1. Tiernan Power Roche, riding for Rothwell, stalked the leaders and held off a loose horse over the final two flights to win by nearly two lengths. This win gives Rothwell a commanding 117 points in the trainer standings, far ahead of Paul Nolan on 52 points. With just five races left before the series concludes at Kilbeggan on April 24, Rothwell is firmly in the hunt for the €50,000 prize, with an additional €10,000 for his stable staff.
Meanwhile, Dunboyne trainer Eddie Cawley celebrated his first winner of the season as Don’t Go Yet triumphed in the two-mile handicap hurdle. Under Sarah Kavanagh, who also ended a cold run, the 12-year-old gelding, known for his fence exploits, took charge between the final two flights and won by six lengths at 5-1. Cawley hinted that the horse would be aimed at an upcoming veterans’ race in a month’s time.
In Cork, a strong Wexford connection saw Onlymammycanloveme secure a victory in the 2m4f handicap hurdle, qualifying for the lucrative Punchestown Festival. Seamus Neville teamed up with Tomhaggard jockey Tiernan Power Roche as their 7-year-old gelding, priced at 14-1, responded well to take the lead and win by a length and a half, improving on a second-place finish at Gowran.
