1 in 14 IRISH PEOPLE ARE ALCOHOLICS
One in fourteen Irish people are alcoholics according to the first study of its kind into drinking habits. The report from the Health Research Board found 150 thousand Irish people are dependent on drink, and three quarters of all alcohol consumed is during binge drinking. It surveyed 6 thousand people aged 18 to 75 in the last year, and found one in five people binge drink at least once a week. This survey also found that Irish people spend 50 million euro per week on drinking, but figures from the CSO suggest it's more than double that with 121 million euro spent a week.
