Owners of the Irish Drivers-Harris plant in New Ross - which manufactures electric cable for worldwide export - have decided to close the operations immediately and have nominated Grant Thornton as liquidators. Staff were informed by management at a meeting this afternoon. Large losses and aggressive price competition are being blamed for the company's closure after 80 years in business.
