Stephen Bowen, Executive Director of Amnesty International, has expressed deep concern over the latest U.S. proposals for peace in Palestine, unveiled by President Donald Trump and his team. Speaking on todays Morning Mix the Director said the focus should be on the troubling aspects of the 20-point plan, including its handling of humanitarian aid and its potential to exacerbate the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Bowen emphasized the importance of achieving a long-lasting peace in Palestine, acknowledging the brutal impact of the illegal occupation and apartheid regime that Palestinians have endured for decades. However, he argued that the new plan risks using essential humanitarian aid as a bargaining chip, a move he described as "unfortunate and dangerous." “The delivery of aid must not be conditional on political agreements," Bowen said. "We cannot allow food and water to become part of the peace negotiations. It is a matter of life and death for the civilians in Gaza.” He also responded to reports that Trump’s peace plan could offer Israel a green light to escalate its military actions. Bowen strongly condemned this stance, accusing the international community of continuing to tolerate Israel's ongoing actions in Gaza, which he described as "genocide." “We must stop the bombardment of Gaza. We must stop the denial of basic necessities. The world cannot stand by and let this continue,” Bowen stressed. The discussion also turned to the broader issue of international accountability, with Bowen highlighting the role of global powers, particularly the United States and European nations, in enabling Israel’s actions through arms deals and diplomatic support. “Israel’s actions are made possible by the continued supply of arms from Western countries. We must ask ourselves why we continue to allow this,” Bowen said. “Until Israel is held accountable for its apartheid system and its illegal occupation, Palestinians will continue to be left feeling forgotten by the rest of the world,”
