Anglo trial coming to a close
After 9 weeks at trial, the prosecution has finished calling evidence against three former Anglo Irish Bank executives. Willie McAteer, Pat Whelan and Sean Fitzpatrick deny allowing allegedly unlawful loans to be issued to 16 individuals to buy shares in the bank in July 2008. 625 million euro was lent to investors to unwind Cavan businessman Sean Quinn's secret 29 per cent stake in the bank. If the defence teams decide not to call any witnesses, the jury may hear closing speeches as early as next week.
