Another World, Another Way: Helping People with Disabilities Travel with Confidence

For many people, booking a holiday is something to look forward to. But for those living with disabilities or additional needs, planning a trip can often be far more complicated.

That's something Edel Reck is determined to change.

A wheelchair user with spina bifida and a lifelong traveller, Edel has launched Another World Another Way, a free online resource designed to help people with disabilities plan accessible holidays with confidence.

Having travelled extensively around the world, Edel has experienced everything from adaptive skiing and mountain biking to safaris and other adventure holidays. Her travels have shown her that, with the right planning and information, many destinations and experiences are far more accessible than people might think.

The idea for the website came after a disappointing holiday experience, when she realised there was a lack of reliable, honest information about accessibility. Rather than letting that discourage her, she set out to create a platform where people could benefit from practical, experience-based advice.

The website offers guidance on everything from booking flights and choosing accommodation to checking whether attractions and activities are genuinely accessible. It also provides tips on the questions travellers should ask before making a booking to help avoid unexpected obstacles.

Edel is passionate about challenging the misconception that disability should prevent people from travelling.

She believes adventure means something different to everyone and wants to encourage people not to rule out holidays before exploring what is possible.

Many will also know Edel as the driving force behind the RTÉ One series Two for the Road, which paired people with disabilities with well-known personalities on adventure holidays, highlighting the possibilities of accessible travel.

Speaking on Morning Mix, Edel said her goal is to make travel easier and more enjoyable by giving people the confidence and information they need to see more of the world
