Battered but Not Broken: Washed-Up Chair Becomes Symbol of Hope for World Mental Health Day

A weathered chair discovered during a beach clean at Ballyteigue Burrow, Kilmore Quay, has been restored and donated to Wexford mental health charity It’s Good 2 Talk . The chair, once part of a ship, endured a long journey at sea and now serves as a powerful metaphor for resilience and recovery. Restored by Springtime Upholstery in Kilmore, the chair’s ocean-blue fabric reflects its maritime journey. Chairperson Madeline Quirke says it has become a “beacon of light” for those struggling with mental health. Clean Coasts programme manager Bronagh Moore adds that connecting with nature can provide exactly what people need, turning a discarded object into a treasured symbol of hope. The chair will be displayed in the window of Specsavers Opticians, Wexford Town , on Friday 10th October , with a Halloween-themed coffee morning fundraiser for the charity on Sunday 26th October at Kilmore Community Hall.
