BREAKING: Motorists advised to take "extreme caution" following major oil spill in Wexford

Wexford County Council are advising extreme caution to motorists and members of the public this afternoon, following what’s being described as a “major” oil spill in Wexford town.

It’s thought that the spill covers a large area of the town, with reports suggesting that it is affecting the road coming from Wexford Bridge towards the McDonald’s restaurant in Drinagh, and also out as far as the Whitemill Roundabout near Killeens.

In a Map Alerter update, issued just before 3.00pm, Wexford County Council stated that the oil spill was affecting the following roads:

1798 Street, Redmond Road R730, Wexford Bridge R730, Commercial Quay R730, Custom House Quay R730, Crescent Quay R730, Paul Quay R730, Trinity Street R730, William Street R730, Maudlintown R730 and Rosslare Road R730.

Motorists and members of the public using the roads network locally are being reminded to take heed of the warning, as a cleanup effort commences.
