Calls for farmers to make safety a top priority
It follows the death of a County Wexford man in a farm accident earlier this week. Jonathan Parle was killed while working on machinery on Tuesday afternoon at his farm in Poulpeasty in Taghmon. The 27 year-old was the 11th person this year to die in a farm accident - that compares with just two deaths for the same period last year. The Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton, the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney along with the HSA and the IFA, issued the joint call to all farmers today. IFA President Eddie Downey said the recent spate of farm fatalities reinforces how important it is to prioritise farm safety. He has appealed to farm families to take every precaution when carrying out their work and minimise the risk on farms. Meanhwile the HSA has produced a simple and easy to use guide entitled ‘Tractor Safety and You’, which can be downloaded from www.hsa.ie.
